bacterial vaginosis aerobic vaginitis

We take a different approach to feminine intimate health.

Just like in the gut, antibiotics for vaginal infections can create chaos. In fact, around 70% of women experience a return of bacterial vaginosis within 3 months of antibiotic treatment.

These harsh treatments kill off good bacteria along with the bad and increase the pH, leaving us exposed to further infections.

We don’t think this is good enough.

At La Biome, we believe that vaginal biome restoration should be easy to use, personalised and produce sustainable results. This means that we care for your good bacteria too.

Our naturopath and microbiome expert will provide you with an in depth interpretation of your lab report in addition to your 1 month supply of personalised pessaries.

Usually, to access practitioner grade lab tests you would need to pay costly consultation fees for initial and follow up sessions.

Our 30 Day Vaginal Rejuvenation program means you can save on those fees (and awkward conversations), and instead receive your results, treatment and follow up test all in one 3-step program.

No more guessing what’s going on. No more bandaid solutionsNo more feeling “out of order” in your intimate life.

What is the vaginal microbiome?

The vaginal microbiome is a complex ecosystem of microorganisms that inhabit the vagina. This can include beneficial, opportunistic or infectious bacteria, viruses, opportunistic fungal pathogens as well as microbial biproducts like lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide or endotoxins. Beneficial bacteria in the vagina secrete lactic acid which helps to maintain the pH balance of the vagina and prevent overgrowth of harmful bacteria. A small amount of hydrogen peroxide produced by beneficial bacteria also protects against infections. The acidic environment created by a healthy microbiome also helps to support healthy pregnancy, and reduce the risk of gynaecological conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis.

What is lactobacillus?

The most abundant bacteria in the vaginal microbiome are ideally Lactobacilli, a species of beneficial bacteria that live in and on humans. The species are classified into ‘Community State Types’ or CSTs which are vaginal microbiomes dominated by either Lactobacillus crispatus, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus iners, Lactobacillus jensenii  or a diverse spread of these.

What are the most common infections?

Gardnerella vaginalis, Ureaplasma species, Prevotella species, Atopobium vaginae and Streptococcus agalactiae are just some bacteria that can cause infections. Candida albians is a common yeast overgrowth that causes thrush.

Can vaginal health impact overall health?

Yes. Dysbiosis of the vaginal microbiome is associated with increased risk of sexually transmitted infections, bacterial vaginosis, aerobic vaginitis, candidiasis/thrush, pregnancy complications, pelvic inflammatory disease, PCOS and endometriosis.
